VOLUNTEERS ARE invited to get hands on to help create Diggle’s first Community Orchard.
Diggle Diggers are planning the beginning of the orchard and would like to ask anyone who is willing to volunteer helping with the planting.
They are beginning with 10 fruit trees and then fruit bushes and herbs will come a little later as part of ongoing work.
The project has become a reality thanks to winning a grant, and the aim is to create community awareness in the importance of sharing and supporting local spectacular rural infrastructure.
The group is working closely with Greg Cookson, local schools, residents and OMBC to build a sustainable educative awareness project that’s fun, hands on and full of locally collected environmental research.
The first session to build the new orchard will be at the site near Diggle’s former tip on Friday, October 28 at 11am. Spades, forks, trowels, gloves will be provided but feel free to bring your own.
The event will be filmed but if you prefer not to be filmed let organisers know on the day.
If the date has to change – due to the trees not arriving on time or the weather is bad – organisers will let people know as soon as possible. Check their Facebook page for more details.
