FROM real reindeer and a delightful Santa’s Grotto to tasty treats and gifts galore, there was festive fun for all the family at a Christmas Market in Greenfield.
The extravaganza at Saddleworth Rangers Rugby Club was organised by Saddleworth Women’s Institute and was even more ambitious than their previous popular events.
Guests had the chance to kickstart their Christmas shopping early as a variety of stalls from local shop owners and crafters offered everything from clothes and cards to candles and pet gifts.
A giant marquee outside became a food hall for the day where visitors could treat themselves to mulled wine, giant mince pies and other refreshments.
Music was provided by Delph Youth Band, while there was also a tombola with great prizes.
And the highlight of the day was undoubtedly the spectacular Santa’s Grotto, which was the creation of WI president Jess Moreland, featuring a large fireplace, a Christmas tree, presents and hundreds of glittering lights.
Children had the chance to visit Santa and his special helper in his grotto to receive a present and then pet and feed his reindeer after.
All profits from the event and others held by the WI throughout the year will be donated to their chosen charity for 2018, Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.
Saddleworth WI’s monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at The Royal George, Greenfield. New members and guests welcome. Guests can attend one ‘taster’ meeting before joining. Meetings start at 8.15pm, with registration from 7.30pm.
