Generous Yanks event organisers donate £500 to Saddleworth School

A GENEROUS donation of £500 was presented to Saddleworth School by kind-hearted organisers of the Yanks Are Back in Saddleworth annual event.

Each year, the popular weekend turns back the clock to celebrate the local filming of Hollywood blockbuster ‘Yanks’ in 1979 starring Richard Gere.

Saddleworth School is flooded with an array of army vehicles, vintage stalls, activities and more for all the family to enjoy.p21 yanks cheque presentationp21 yanks cheque presentationp21 yanks cheque presentationp21 yanks cheque presentation

Funds raised from the weekend are donated to charities – with the Royal British Legion supported in 2014 – as well as going towards hosting the next year’s event.

And a donation of £500 has also been made to Saddleworth School by the organisers once again following the successful event last year.

Paul Higginson explained: “The school gives us help by letting us use the grounds and facilities for the event each year so we are just giving something back.”

Les Leech added: “We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the event this year and I am sure it is going to be another successful and popular weekend.”

Saddleworth School headmaster Mr Milburn commented: “We greatly appreciate this donation and will be very pleased to welcome the event back again this year.”

The Yanks Are Back in Saddleworth 2015 will be held on August 8 and 9 at Saddleworth School. For more information visit: www2events.co.uk

The chosen charities that will be supported this year are the Royal British Legion, Homes For Heroes and local cadets.
