Yanks roll into Saddleworth as friendly wartime invasion returns

SADDLEWORTH turned back the clock for its annual friendly weekend wartime invasion.

The Yanks came back to the area on August 11 and 12, complete with fly past by Spitfire, Lancaster and Hurricane, military vehicles, vintage cars, 1940’s fashion show, craft stalls, dancing, music and much more.

Now in its 17th year, ‘Yanks’ is billed as the North of England’s longest running WW2 Military and Living History event.

The main base for the weekend’s activities was Saddleworth School, while there was also the customary parade of veterans and machinery through the villages on Sunday.

This year’s parade was led by the remainder of the Stockport Normandy veterans, alongside the Oldham British Legion veterans. Money raised from the two-day event will be given to the Bury Veterans’ Association.
