Young musicians to come together for special concert

A SPECIAL concert is bringing together young musicians from home and abroad in Saddleworth this month.

The ‘Celebration of Youth’ concert, presented by Saddleworth School music department, will take place on Tuesday, June 25 at St Chad’s Church in Uppermill, starting at 7.30pm.

Taking centre stage will be Saddleworth School Brass Band and Dobcross Youth Band, who will be joined by special guests from Norway, Knarvik Skulekorps and Ytrebygda Skulekorps.

Knarvik Skulekorps and Ytrebygda Skulekorps are youth brass bands from the north and south of Bergen respectively

Garrath Beckwith, head of Saddleworth School music department, said: “This is the first time we have hosted an event with another international musical organisation and we are very much looking forward to sharing the stage with our special guests.

“Each of the four bands will present a 20 to 30-minute programme of entertaining brass band music in the glorious setting of Saddleworth Church.

“This special celebration concert allows our young musicians an opportunity to build friendships with other young brass musicians who perform in a very similar musical genre and culture in another country.

“The Norwegian brass banding scene is something really special, producing many world class ensembles.

“I am sure everyone involved will enjoy learning from the experience and also, very importantly, having some fun!”

Entry is free but tickets must be reserved in advance by emailing g.beckwith@saddleworthschool.org
