LESS is definitely more for a Holmfirth business with a conscience.
You can buy everything from bamboo toilet paper to beeswax sandwich wraps and recyclable toothbrush heads on the well-stocked shelves of Your Nuts.Even owner James Brooke, who runs the well-established Huddersfield Road business with partner Natalia, struggles to put a number on their ever evolving product range.
But what you won’t find is excess waste and non-environmentally friendly packaging.
It is plastic free wherever possible for the couple who in January celebrate the first anniversary of swapping respective careers as assistant restaurant manager and care assistant to take over Your Nuts.
“It really feels like everybody is getting on board with the plastic free lifestyle, but we are in a bit of a bubble with the shop,” says Holmfirth-raised James.
“You have to look through that and see if you can get through to the people who aren’t sure where to start, and show them the small steps that they can take to reduce waste in their day to day lives.
“That was our vision for this place when we started, and we have started to put it together.
“Thankfully, it has been going well so far, and everyone in Holmfirth has been really supportive.
“The shop has been here for a long time, and I think a lot of people were worried it was going to close down, so it’s nice to be able to keep it going for them, and introduce some new ideas too.
“Hopefully, we are going to be here for a long time. The only regret is it took us so long to do it.
“Initially, it was learning a big curve – there was a lot to take in.
“But we threw ourselves into it and are enjoying it so far.
“There are a lot of different ranges but we’re always looking to bring in new lines, and we keep an eye out for new products that we think people will be interested in.
“When you start delving into it there are so many great products out there.“But we have tried to source those that we believe in, and ones that we think will be unique in the area.
“And if a customer asks for something that we don’t have, we will try and source it for them.
“This is our first Christmas so if people have ideas, or things that they’d like to see brought in, then we are willing to listen.”
A core part of the business is providing products for the zero-waste, refillable section, where you can bring empty containers to refill shampo, fabric conditioners, body wash, floor and loo cleaning products, and many more.
A wide range of loose food products are also available, from porridge oats to pasta and paper bags are provided in case you don’t have an empty recepticle to hand.
On top of this, there are natural crystal deodorant sticks, reusable hot and cold bottles, natural vitamins, supplements, cosmetics and a whole host of other products for body and mind.
And if you want a Christmassy touch, Your Nuts provide a hamper service to pack products together as a gift for someone special.
