Big-game spur for Oldham RL Club

OUT for a couple of months though injury, prop Adam Neal and utility back Richard Lepori could give coach Scott Naylor a selection headache ahead of Oldham RL Club’s relegation showdown with local rivals Swinton Lions at Heywood Road, Sale on Sunday (3pm kick-off).

They will have fitness tests tomorrow (Thursday) and, if successful, will be among 22 players from whom Naylor will name the 17 he believes can tame the Lions and keep the Roughyeds’ on course to stay in the KP Championship at Swinton’s expense.

“We had no new injuries after the Toulouse game, so I’ll be picking from strength,” said the Oldham boss.

The 22 will comprise of the 17 against Toulouse plus Scott Leatherbarrow, Neal, Lepori, Ben Davies and Steve Nield.

Added Naylor: “We were all very relaxed last night and we got some idea of the squad we’ll have available.

“Everyone is looking forward to the big game. I’m sure a few nerves will surface towards the end of the week because so much is riding on it.

“At the end of the day it’s just a game of rugby and it’s up to us to play with the same energy and the same commitment that we’ve shown in our last three or four games.”
