Brothers team up to launch new barbers

TWO BROTHERS are keeping it in the family after starting their own barbers shop in Lydgate.

Alan and Reece Beak officially opened ‘Ruger’ at the start of November after working together for three years at Steven Caine Gents Hairdressing on Huddersfield Road.

They have decided to take the next step and go into business for themselves, launching the sleek and trendy barbers in collaboration with the new Jo Ferns hairdressing salon.

Alan, 29, who started working at Steven Caine’s on Saturdays 17 years ago and has been cutting hair for eight years, explained: “We decided it was time to open our own place and we love this area.

“In this industry the next step up is to have your own shop and then even a chain.

“I enjoy it as it allows you to be creative, and every haircut is different. When your job is your hobby it isn’t hard work and it becomes more of a lifestyle than a job.”

The pair even got hands on to make sure everything was completed in time for the launch of their newly revamped barbers, which offers all standard cuts on hair and beards.

Reece, 25, revealed: We’ve called in a lot of favours from friends to keep costs down – in return for a few free haircuts!

“We did some of the work ourselves too, like the tiling and the bricking, and it’s all come together nicely.

“As for the name, we just saw it on social media, which we use a lot, and really liked it and agreed it was the right name for us.”

And Alan and Reece, from Moorside, are already expanding their team as they will be joined by Danielle in November and then by Jay Murray, who is moving over from Dublin, in January.
