PLAYERS OF all ages are invited to pick up a racquet and try tennis for free on the fantastic new courts at Saddleworth Tennis Club this month.

The 130-year-old club, off Calf Lane, Greenfield, has recently resurfaced and painted their three courts after raising £25,000 for the work.
Now, players can come down to the club anytime between 2pm-5pm on Sunday, July 23 for the ‘Great British Weekend’ of tennis.
Committee member Neil Gaskell said: “This event is part of a national project to encourage more people to take up tennis and will be a fun afternoon with people being able to have a go at playing and, if they want, join in a couple of organised activities.
“It’s the perfect chance to try playing tennis, especially if you have been inspired by watching Wimbledon.”
Tennis rackets and balls will be provided. Only non-marking trainers are needed. Drinks and refreshments will be available.
Work on Saddleworth new courts was completed in May after a campaign was launched in January 2016 to raise the funds – the old ones had become virtually unplayable.
Through fundraising events, donations and sponsorship from local businesses, a loan from Lancashire LTA and a £1,000 grant from Forever Manchester, their target was achieved.
The courts have been resurfaced with tarmac and sprayed with acrylic paint.
