PUPILS AND staff are celebrating at Saddleworth School after their hard work earned them a prestigious Healthy Schools Gold Award
The year-long process saw the school launch a number of activities to help pupils have a positive and healthy approach both mentally and physically.
A peer mentors group was established and students were trained in sessions run by Dove for self esteem and Mind for mental health.

Some were also trained as anti-bullying ambassadors by representatives from the Diane Award group, and are now working with pupils of all ages in school.
The peer mentors also put their skills to use teaching an English lesson to Year 6 students on the transition day and will help them settle in when they join Year 7.
The school also introduced a number of anti-bullying initiatives including an anti-bullying day in November alongside New Bridge School, People First and the Hope Theatre.
Students attended workshops led by Year 11 prefects and produced work which is now displayed around school further promoting their zero tolerance policy on bullying.
And this June Year 9 students were involved in self-esteem workshops led by Dove which looked at photoshop and the impact it can have on an individual’s self esteem.
Colette Cradock, PSHCE Co-ordinator and lead for the award, said: “The school is delighted to receive this award in recognition of the work staff and students have done throughout the year.
“We have been invited to apply for the Platinum Award next year which we are very much looking forward to.”
