The annual awards recognise achievements in further education at the college and nominations for the ‘Star of the Year’ were so impressive that three were chosen.

The Gold Star Award went to Konnor French, 19, the Silver Star to Ayrton and the Bronze Star to Robyn-Jade Hunt, 18, while Thomas Bradshaw, 19, received The Emerson Educational Trust Award.

Ayrton is on the fitness academy course at the college and his tutors reported he was an outstanding student, who despite living far away never misses a day, even when it snows.

All his coursework has achieved a gold standard and he recently achieved the highest score ever achieved by a fitness academy student in an anatomy and physiology theory exam.

In addition to his studies, Ayrton is a national champion for Muay Thai Boxing and has recently been attending trials for the GB squad.

Ayrton said: “I really enjoy my course and am now looking forward to progressing to the next level so I can become a personal trainer.

“I want to start my own business when I finish studying.  Hopwood Hall College has been a very positive experience for me.

“It’s a good day to win because I also qualified as a gym instructor! I was totally chuffed to have won this award. I like winning things!”
