DISCOVER the great Saddleworth outdoors with a host of events and activities this month.
The Saddleworth Outdoor Festival, which is now in its fourth year, is returning from Friday, September 22 to Sunday 24.
First up is ‘An Evening of Adventure Film and Talk’ on Friday 22, with an exciting line-up of inspirational speakers.
The theme of the film and talk night is ‘MOHON – Cycling across the Mongolian Steppe’ and looks at the adventures of Jimmy Hyland who cycled across the vast Mongolian Steppe.
Also speaking will be 13-year-old Aimee Torr talking about her ‘Challenge 108 – Breaking the backbone of Britain.
Aimee set out to follow in her mother’s footsteps to complete the route of the Montane Mountain Rescue ‘Spine’ Challenge, and so completed 108 miles across the Pennines.

Then on Saturday, September 23 is a Guided Discovery Walk when participants can follow ‘In the footsteps of Outlaws & Legionaries – Exploring the great Pennine divide’.
Saddleworth Discovery Walk’s Chris Maylor leads the way, following the steps of outlaws and Roman soldiers to explore the secluded Piethorne Valley and Blackstone Edge.
This informative, 10-mile walk crosses open moorland, visiting places of historical interest. Please bring suitable outdoor clothing, footwear and lunch.
Meet 10am for a 10:15 start at Ogden Reservoir car park, Ogden Lane, Newhey, OL16 3TQ.
Bring suitable clothing and footwear. Packed lunch required too.
And on Sunday, September 24 join Saddleworth Runners Club for an enjoyable and social run, across the hills, valleys and moors of Saddleworth.
Start at 10am at Lime Kiln Cafe, Uppermill. Bring a waterproof jacket.
Starting on Friday, September 22 is an Outdoor Art and Photography Exhibition, showcasing the work of locally acclaimed artists and photographers for two weeks.
The exhibition will be above the Lime Kiln cafe, Brownhill Visitor Centre, Wool Road, Dobcross.
