A KIND-HEARTED charity is holding two Christmas sales this month and calling on the public for donations to help people who are street homeless this winter.
Emmaus Mossley will hold events on Saturday 12 and 19 December when Santa will visit their Longlands Mill and the café will be serving home-made food and Christmas treats.
The Emmaus superstore will be selling lots of Christmas decorations, trees, gifts and cards, all at reasonable prices, that will go towards supporting formerly homeless people.
The charity is also calling on customers to bring in donations of unwanted sleeping bags for people who are street homeless.
Throughout winter, volunteers from Emmaus Mossley carry out a weekly soup run to Manchester city centre where they provide hot food, kindly provided by the Indian Ocean Restaurant, and drinks as well as clothes and other essential items.
Gary Barton,a companion at Emmaus Mossley, said: “This time of year can be very harsh for people who are living on the streets.
“We find any items of clothes, food and even spending time having a chat is appreciated more so than at other times of the year.”
Last year, rough sleeping statistics showed that 2,744 people slept rough every night in England and the colder months can be extremely hard and sometimes life threatening.
Ali Hill, Project Director at Emmaus Mossley, said: “Our community is looking forward to Christmas and we have lots of bargains and interesting gifts on offer.
“We’re encouraging customers to bring in unwanted sleeping bags for people who are street homeless. We’ve got lots of clothes and coats but it’s sleeping bags that we really need.”
The Christmas sales at Emmaus Mossley will take place on Saturday 12 and 19 of December 2015.
