Family landlords celebrate first anniversary at Greenfield pub

A FAMILY quest to bring a quiet Greenfield pub back to life over the last year has turned into a “life-changing experience” say the family.

Ann and Mel, who ran the Bulls Head on Ripponden Road for 15 years, took over The Clarence with daughters Michelle and Pippa last February.

Just four months later they scooped a prestigious Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence and now a year on they are still going from strength to strength.

Michelle explained: “The people here are so lovely and have been so welcoming. We only moved from Moorside but it’s a completely different atmosphere.

“It’s a wonderful place to live and work as a family. It has been a life-changing experience.”

The family celebrated their first anniversary in charge with a fire-eating extravaganza from Tony Beswick, along with a disco and karaoke with DJ Rix the Mix.

Michelle said: “It was amazing and everyone had a great evening. Our regulars came in to celebrate with us and it was a lovely atmosphere.”

The family made their mark on the pub as soon as they moved in, including retarmacking the outside seating area, freshening up the restaurant, adding televisions and hosting live music nights.

They also extended the mouth-watering menu from head chef Steven Norris to include home-made pizzas, fish, curries, burgers, steaks and desserts, as well as vegetarian options, children’s and senior citizen’s menus, and Sunday Roast Dinner.

Michelle added: “We’re really pleased with how the restaurant has taken off. Things are getting better and better and we’ve got lots more planned”.

Next, the carpark will be re-tarmacked and new flowers and furniture will brighten up the outside to welcome guests in the summer months.

Visitors can enjoy entertainment on Whit Friday evening from Rix the Mix, while there will also be a delicious, traditional British menu available.

This will be followed by an Open Mic in August in aid of the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, more details soon.
