Houghton Weavers bring music and fun to Uppermill

A FUN night with great music will liven up the Civic Hall in Uppermill as the Houghton Weavers take to the stage on Saturday, October 11.

The group, who are currently touring the United Kingdom, will bring an evening of song and humour as they aim to ‘keep folk smiling’, with Gilbert Symes as compere for the evening.p21 Uppermill_Houghton A4 Poster_001

And as they prepare to celebrate their fortieth year in 2015, they will bring old favourites and new songs from more than 24 albums.

Organiser Phil Beckwith said: “It will be a terrific, fun night with some great folk music thrown into the mix. We wouldn’t want anyone to miss them.”

Formed in 1975, The Houghton Weavers made their television debut on the BBC’s talent show ‘We’ll Call You’ and were given their own show ‘Sit Thi Deawn’ which continued for seven years.

They have appeared on many other national TV programmes and radio with notable artistes as Cannon & Ball, Ken Dodd, Rick Wakeman, Mike Harding, Billy Connolly, Phil Cool, Jasper Carrott, Norman Wisdom and Mick Miller.

They have starred in pantomimes at top theatres in the North West and have had hits across the world, particularly with perennial favourite ‘The Blackpool Belle’.

The Houghton Weavers will perform at the Civic Hall in Uppermill on Saturday, October 11 at 8pm.

Tickets, costing £12 (£10 concessions), are on sale from Post Offices in Delph, Uppermill, and Diggle and Saddleworth Museum.
