Kind-hearted locals rally together for foodbank fundraiser at Muse

MUSE Wine Bar in Uppermill was the venue for a venture by kind-hearted locals raising money for the Hits Radio #nochildshouldgohungry food bank appeal.

Last month, Hits Radio, formerly Key 103, launched the urgent appeal after figures were released suggesting three million children across the UK are at risk of ‘significant hunger’ during the summer holidays.

Many families rely on their children having a free school meal as their main meal of their day. Unfortunately, without that meal, one in three children are expected to go hungry.

Keen to do something to help, Lisa Jane and her friend Dallas Baker rallied together locals and collected hundreds of food items to donate to the food bank.

Wanting to do even more, Lisa then teamed up with Hannah-leigh Savage and spoke to Muse to organise a fundraising evening at the popular high street bar and restaurant.

Businesses including All Wrapped Up, Windsor Meats Lees, The Roebuck, Greenfield Village Barbers, Play Oldham and Diggle, and Caribbean Corner Moorside offered up a host of exciting raffle prizes.

Entry to the event was £2 and each guest was automatically entered into the prize draw, while 10 per-cent of what products sold by ‘Body Shop by Hannah’ were added to the pot of funds raised.

Lisa said the appeal received “great support from friends buying raffle tickets” and added: “I want to say a massive thank you to the businesses that supported us.

“£284.30 was raised and it will all be spent on buying food. I’ve been in contact with Oldham Foodbank and they are very happy.”

Added to the previous total of £100 donated, this means nearly £400 has been raised in just a matter of weeks, along with a vast amount of food.

Inspired by the success of the event, Lisa said she would “happily do another event possibly around Christmas when it’s a hard time for families also.”
