Mark turns on the style in golf qualifier at Saddleworth

MARK ORME produced a phenomenal round of golf at Saddleworth to win the qualifier for the Chronicle Cup.saddleworth golf club

The five-handicapper went out in a remarkable 30 gross which was five-under-par and included an eagle at the ninth and three birdies.

Orme was three over for the back nine, but still returned a two-under-par gross 69 for a nett 64 and a one stroke margin of victory over Ben Simpson who also shot a fabulous round of 70-5-64 while Nick Kerin (80-13-67) was third.

The top 30 players qualify for the Chronicle Cup which is being staged at Crompton and Royton on June 6.

Lee Tilley and David Rhodes, of Werneth, were the winners of the Am-Am as they amassed 45 points in the pairs Stableford.

And Gary Simpson and Werneth’s Mark Abbott (43pts) were runners-up on the card from R Beck and G Bream from South Leeds.

Fourth were Rob Norbury and B Coleman (42pts) on the card from Alan Squires and Nick Marner.

Steve Wild and C Caldwell carded 41pts in a Stableford to land top spot in Captain’s Invitation.

Mike Taylor and G Marshall were runners up with  39 points from Gary Simpson and J Buckley, S Mills and B McGloughlin.

Former captains Gary Simpson and Nigel Cooper were the victors in the HHDUGC four-ball qualifier amassing 43 points in the Stableford.

Jordan Tyler and John Barnes (42pts) were runners-up while Harry Long and Mike Keighley (41pts) were third.
