MORE than 1,500 people have backed a campaign to save a roadside food bar used by walkers exploring the Pennines close to Saddleworth.
Nicky’s Food Bar, situated on the Pennine Way near the M62, has been ordered to cease trading after a planning appeal over the business was unsuccessful.
A petition launched by owner Nicky Jackson in a bid to secure its future has now attracted more than 1,500 signatures, with supporters highlighting the food bar’s location on the popular long-distance walking route.
The business had previously operated from a van before moving into a shipping container to meet growing demand.
A retrospective planning application was subsequently submitted but refused by Rochdale Council in December 2025.
An appeal was then made to the Planning Inspectorate but was dismissed in April 2026, leaving the business facing enforcement action requiring it to cease trading by November 9.
The planning inspector concluded the food bar represented “inappropriate development” within the Green Belt and raised concerns about its effect on the surrounding moorland landscape.
However, the proposals attracted significant public support, with more than 500 representations submitted during the appeal process.
The campaign to keep Nicky’s Food Bar open has continued to gather momentum since a petition was launched, with customers describing the facility as an important stopping point for people walking in the area.
Its location close to Saddleworth and directly on the Pennine Way means it is used by walkers and visitors travelling through the surrounding moorland.
With the deadline to cease trading approaching, supporters are continuing to call for a solution which would allow the popular food bar to remain.
