Claire Lees has organised the event to raise money for Headway, a charity that supports people with brain injuries, following the tragic loss of her step-sister Karin who died suddenly from a brain haemorrhage aged 32.

Soprano Claire, who is studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, will perform Christmas classics with some of her fellow students at The Swan Inn on Sunday, December 22 at 8pm.

She will be joined by mezzo soprano Letitia Keys, tenor Adam O’Shea and baritone Frazer Scott, all accompanied on piano by Elizabeth Legroux for solos, ensembles, duets and audience sing-alongs.

Claire revealed the idea first came about at the funeral and doing it for a good cause made the idea all the more inviting.

She said: “I started talking to my family about potentially doing a Christmas concert and we decided we should do it for a charity that helps people like Karin.

“She passed away in New Zealand and it was so devastating for me and the whole family. I’m studying in London right now so it was really hard to deal with being so far away.”

Claire, who is based in Rochdale, eventually chose The Swan after her aunt suggested the popular and picturesque location.

She said: “I was at my auntie’s house talking about potential venues and she mentioned The Swan in Dobcross.

“I know the area quite well as I used to be in the brass band so I contacted them and they had availability and it’s a really nice setting as well.”

Tickets for the ‘Musical Magic at Christmas’ concert cost £7.50 each, including mulled wine and a mince pie, and are available from The Swan Inn or online at:www.wegottickets.com/Dobcross
