Fresh lease of life as new landlords take over Diggle pub

A FRESH lease of life is coming to a Diggle pub as new landlords throw open the doors to the community.

Vikki and Tim Nash have moved into ‘The Gate Inn’ on Huddersfield Road with their sons Ethan and Bobby and dog Rufus after eagerly collecting the keys at the start of December.

And they have big plans for the venue, which reopened on the weekend of December 11 under its original name, rather than The Hanging Gate, after a spring-clean and refresh throughout.

Vikki, who ran ‘Beautify’ in Dobcross for three years, explained: “Although we are new to the pub industry, we are super excited.

“We believe the village will benefit from the pub having a new lease of life and we are determined to make The Gate Inn the heart of the community that Digglers can be proud of.

“We will have a strong focus on being family friendly, offering great value meals and a healthy children’s menu.

“Our menu will be limited for a short time while we work on the kitchen but will offer good pub food, including the pizzas The Gate has become known for.

“The drinks menu will include award-winning casque ales, wines from around the world and an extensive selection of sparkling wines.

“There will be some wines exclusive to The Gate, and we will also be selling a selection from Simply Saddleworth Wine.

“Added to this we will have some premium spirits on offer, and we will be serving excellent coffee all day.”

“The pub will be open for all groups and societies to visit with the hope they will use it as a meeting place for their activities.

“Also, we’re collecting pictures of Diggle from over the decades to decorate our walls and create a bit of a talking point.

“So if you have any pictures of the area or events to share, please bring them in so we can make copies and show them off.”

The pub also boasts four ensuite guest rooms, a pool table and is dog friendly.

And there are more exciting times ahead as an extensive refurbishment has been planned in partnership with the brewery for next spring, with plans to be displayed soon.

The Gate welcomes everyone to join them over Christmas and New Year. They are open on Christmas Day for drinks only between 12noon and 3pm.

Then they are hosting a family party on New Year’s Eve, as well as an 80s and 90s disco on Saturday, January 30. Tickets for both events are available from the pub.
