Weight Watchers Leader Karen Thompson offers tips for finding a new you this New Year
NOW THE festivities are over a lot of people see January as a time to detox, to become healthier and lose weight.
I personally, with Weight Watcher’s new Simple Start, am looking forward to helping my members, old and new, get some great results this month.
If you are planning a healthy start to 2014 a good place to begin is to get rid of all those highly calorific tempting foods we perhaps bought too many of in December.
In my meetings the first two weeks in January we are having a chocolate amnesty and are collecting all unopened Christmas goodies to donate to the Oldham Foodbank – feel free to drop any of yours off at Saddleworth Rangers to add to our collection.
When you’ve decluttered, stock up with lots of foods that are going to satisfy you, like lean proteins, fresh fruit and vegetables, wholewheat pasta, rice and low calorie bread.
Porridge made with skimmed milk topped with berries is a great way to get your day started, perhaps tuna pasta salad for lunch and an easy one tray bake like the one below for a great family dinner.
Make sure there’s plenty of fresh fruit to snack on and start to think of what you can do to move more and sit less to boost your energy levels and your feel good factor.
ONE TRAY ROAST CHICKEN
Pre-heat the oven to 180 C. Chop new potatoes into chunks and boil for 10 minutes until just tender, then drain.
Mix some lemon zest, a crushed garlic clove and fresh thyme or rosemary, slash chicken breasts and rub the mixture over.
Put the potatoes in a roasting tin, add sliced leeks and peppers and spray with calorie controlled spray.
Arrange the chicken on the top and drizzle with lemon juice and roast for 20 minutes, stirring halfway through.
Add some cherry tomatoes and stir and then roast for a final 10 minutes.
