New Zealand band to entertain at special concert in Dobcross

SPECIAL BRASS band visitors from New Zealand will entertain at Dobcross Band and Social Club next month as part of a unique min Whit Friday and concert.

13934568_10209838114810211_7278651134557976655_nWellington Brass Band is taking part in the 164th British Open Brass Band Championships in Birmingham on Saturday, September 10, open to British and Commonwealth Bands.

And as part of their trip to the UK they got in touch with Dobcross Silver Band to arrange a visit to the band club to make up for missing this year’s Whit Friday spectacle in May.

Phil Cumberworth, from Dobcross Silver Band and Brass Monkeys, explained: “They got in contact to say they would love to come to Dobcross while they are over here.

“It just shows how famous Dobcross is around the world! So they have arranged a day trip to Dobcross and we’re going to put on a mock Whit Friday contest march for them.”

On Wednesday, September 7, Wellington Brass will rehearse in the world-famous band club before assembling in the car park at 6pm for their mini march.

They will process at 6.30pm down to the village green for a short performance, which will be adjudicated by world famous Dobcross whistler David Morris.

Then Wellington Brass will perform in concert at the band club from 7pm-8.30pm, led by conductor David Bremner. All are welcome to the free event.
