IT HAS been a globetrotting start to 2013 for local hockey player Nicola White.

The 25-year-old, who began her playing days at Saddleworth Hockey Club, has already competed in tournaments in South Africa and Austria.

And having also attended an England training camp and with another big event in Germany looming, it has been a hectic time.

Nicola was one of only two survivors from the Great Britain Olympic Games bronze medal winning team selected to play for England in the Investec Challenge in South Africa.

The four-team tournament in Cape Town, which also comprised Australia, Holland and the hosts, was an opportunity to look to the future by introducing new players.

It was then off to Vienna on club duty for Leicester, who as 2012 Maxifuel Super Sixes champions, qualified to compete at the EuroHockey Indoor Cup where they sadly finished bottom .

That will mean Reading, the 2013 Maxifuel Super Sixes champions, will next year play in the second tier of Europe’s premier indoor competition.

Nicola is off to Hamburg next to compete for Leicester in the European outdoor championships.

The England training camps was part of the selection process for formulating a Great Britain squad which will be finalised this month and which will then immediately start preparations for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
