Record win takes Oldham back to third

OLDHAM RL Club posted an all-time club record win against bottom-of-the-table West Wales Raiders -achieved, ironically, in front of an all-time lowest attendance of 274.

The score, 102-6, beat the Roughyeds’ previous best of 80-6 against another team from South Wales, Blackwood, in the 2010 Challenge Cup competition.

Dave Hewitt’s eight goals and three tries gave him 28 points, but he fell six short of the individual points record in a match, held jointly at 34 by Andy Ballard (2009), Chris Baines (2009) and Lewis Palfrey (2015).

Oldham led 50-6 at half-time; scored nine tries in each half; and had outstanding individuals in four-try full-back Luke Hooley and hat-trick try scorers in dual-reg hooker Jonah Cunningham and Hewitt.

Other try scorers were Jack Holmes (2), Jack Spencer, Jordan Dezaria, Lee Kershaw, Zack McComb (2) and Ben West.

Paul Crook kicked seven first-half conversions but spent the second half on the bench with Hewitt taking over as marksman and converting every chance by one.

The win takes Oldham back to third place.
