Professional photograph retouchers Altered Images was set up in September 2003 by David Parker after he retired from working for Greater Manchester Police.

After spending most of his career as a Police and Forensic Artist – helping identify criminals and disguise innocent people in pictures containing crime suspects – David now specialises in restoring more personal photos.

And his experience stretches back more than forty years as he started out as a technical illustrator at Mather & Platt after leaving school in 1964.

But despite his history in the field, David admitted he only set up Altered Images following a chance encounter at a local picture framers shop.

He revealed: “I was waiting to be served when I overheard a conversation; a lady’s treasured photograph had become damaged on falling from her mantelpiece.

“The glass was stuck to photograph and on trying to remove it tore the image. The lady was so upset that I offered to repair it for her.

“It was then that I realised no one else was offering this type of service to the general public and so I set up Altered Images.”

Altered Images uses the latest imaging equipment to retouch, restore or enhance photographs and portraits that are water damaged, torn, cracked, bleached, faded, stained or have parts missing.

David also works with 360 Product movies and 360 panoramic views and virtual tours and offers negative and slide scanning services and vector graphic services.

He added: “I have developed my services and now offer montages from photographs for birthdays, anniversaries, events and memorials.

“One of my proudest moments was creating a special montage for Meningitis Trust Ambassador Alex Williams, which was displayed at his funeral. I later offered this montage for sale to help his family raise funds in his memory for The Meningitis Trust.”
