The ‘Engage, Develop, Succeed’ scheme by Saddleworth Rotary Club is aimed at Year 10 students from Saddleworth and Failsworth schools.

It will improve their confidence, self-esteem and team-working skills through personal development plans, involvement in a business simulation and a residential weekend.

The group will undertake a community project based on analysing, planning, delivering and reviewing a pilot study aimed at alleviating loneliness and isolation faced by many local elderly residents.

And learning from their experiences will form the basis of a submission for a nationally recognised award from the Chartered Management Institute.

Running and funding of the course is currently being met by the Saddleworth Rotary Club with generous support from Oldham Business Leadership Group (OBLG).

A similar project was successfully accomplished last year and an event was held at the White Hart, Lydgate, to celebrate the achievements of the last cohort as well as introduce the new group.

More than 60 people attended, including students from last year’s project, pupils taking part this year, Rotary members from Saddleworth and other district clubs and members of OBLG.

Saddleworth Rotary were also presented with the RIBI District 1280 Val Scerri Award for the best Vocational Service project 2014-2015.
