Michelle Bradley, from Salon 7, looks at how to look after your crowning glory
I LOVE new hair! I watch our clients arriving in winter bundled up in hats and coats, ready for a new look and I love the transformation when I see them leave carefully coiffured and looking amazing.
However I sometimes think our hair gets neglected a little bit, both with the products we use and also how long we ignore it – until we remember we are going out somewhere special!
A regular hair cut should be as much a part of our beauty regime as looking after our skin and getting our waxing done.
The only way to keep hair in the best of health is to trim it regularly. How often depends on both its length and condition. Short to collar bone length hair should have a trim every four to six weeks.
Hair any longer than the collarbone should be trimmed every six to eight weeks, but more often if you are prone to split ends as once any breakage has spread up the hair shaft the only option is to cut it off, which will mean you losing your length.
Coloured hair again may need a more regular trim and hair treatments to keep it in good condition ready for your next colour.
The environment and the weather take the same toll on hair as it does on skin: winter rain, cold and pollution or even having the central heating on full blast can cause your hair to lose its bounce and shine while summer exposure to UV rays leaves your hair as fragile as your skin.
Using good quality products will keep your hair in better condition and, as with anything, quality counts. A discount brand shampoo may feel like value for money but the reality is you generally use more and it may contain silicone which damages hair.
A Salon 7 service will always include a shampoo tailored to your hair requirements, helping you get the most from your colour and style. Use styling products such as a heat protection spray will reduce damage during drying and straightening and provide essential UV protection.
Salon 7 offers a weekly blow dry service (£20 for 4 blow drys) where we will look after your hair with some of the best products on the market.
A Brazilian blow dry is an excellent way of reducing the amount of time you spend with the straighteners as this Keratin treatment seals in moisture and smoothens the hair shaft which helps relax curly or frizzy hair for up to three months. It will also improve the overall condition and shine.
Salon 7 offers a full range of treatments and products to keep your hair in the best possible condition and if you are thinking of updating your colour with the promise of brighter spring days (hopefully) then we offer an extensive colouring consultation. We also include a complimentary cut and finish with every colouring service.
Right now Salon 7 are offering Saddleworth Independent readers a great 25% discount when you start using either our colouring services or book your first Brazillian blow dry treatment. And if you book a cut and finish (£23 Senior Stylist or £18 with a stylist) we will add a complimentary Wella Ritual Conditioning Treatment worth £4.50.
