Victorian thriller ‘Gas Light’ comes to Uppermill

GET set to be thrilled this autumn as Uppermill Stage Society is proud to present ‘Gas Light’ by Patrick Hamilton.

Dominic Peberdy (playing Mr Manningham) and Ian Ball (Inspector Rough) in rehearsal

The play is set in London in 1880 at the upper middle class home of Jack Manningham and his wife Bella.

Overbearing Jack has unexplained disappearances and is intent on convincing Bella that she is going insane, even assuring her that she is “imagining” the gas light in the house is dimming.

The play follows Bella as, with the help of a police detective called Rough, she realises Jack is responsible for her torment, and they solve the murder of a wealthy neighbour.

Uppermill Stage Society (USS)’s rehearsals are progressing well under the excellent attention of award-winning director Norma Raife, who returns to the Society after successful previous productions ‘Dial M for Murder’ and ‘A Month of Sundays’.

The Society said: “‘Gas Light’ promises to be an atmospheric and ‘edge of your seat’ experience for the audience. Don’t miss it!”

‘Gas Light’ will be performed from Tuesday, October 17 to Friday, October 20 at Ebenezer Church, School Street, Uppermill, starting at 7.30pm. There is no Saturday performance.

Tuesday tickets are on special offer for £6 each, all other performances £8. Tickets are available from Turners Dry Cleaners, New Street, Uppermill and Uppermill Post Office or call Des on 0161 626 5489.
